The White Rider

We have arrived at the moment that makes all of history's suffering worthwhile. This is why Christ died on the cross. This is the hope that sustained the martyrs at the stake, and sustains you today in the face of your own traumas and injustices. Revelation is not a book about monsters — it is, as you have discovered, "The Fifth Gospel." And the ending of this Gospel is not an empty tomb, but a Heaven, full to the brim, coming to get us.

The Seventh Seal: Silence in Heaven

Before we see the Rider, we need to understand the Seventh Seal (Rev. 8:1). John says there "was silence in heaven for about half an hour."

Why would Heaven — a place of constant music and praise — fall silent? The answer is thrilling: Heaven emptied out. God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, and all the angels have left. They didn't send a car to pick us up — they came in person. In prophecy, 1 day equals 1 year. So a prophetic "half hour" equals roughly seven literal days. This is the time of the round trip. The royal procession is crossing the universe for history's greatest rescue.

The Sign in Orion and the Little Cloud

Picture the scene on Earth. The seven plagues have devastated the planet. Black clouds of smoke and chaos cover the sky. But suddenly, the black atmosphere splits open. Through the gap in the constellation of Orion, an indescribable glory shines through.

A small black cloud, the size of a man's hand, appears in the east. The wicked tremble, but God's people know: it is the sign of the Son of Man. The cloud draws near and turns white, bright, glorious. Its base is consuming fire, and above it, the rainbow of the covenant. It is not a flying saucer; it is the Throne of God in motion.

The White Rider and Armageddon (Part 1)

Jesus no longer comes as the "Man of Sorrows" from Galilee. He comes as the White Rider of Revelation 19. He bears a name written on His thigh: King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Here happens the first part of Armageddon. It is not a nuclear war between nations. It is the direct confrontation between the glory of Christ and the satanic trinity (Dragon, Beast, and False Prophet). Remember Mount Carmel? Elijah, alone, confronted 850 prophets of Baal. Now, the Greater Elijah (Jesus) confronts global Babylon.

The "battle" is swift. The sword that comes from Christ's mouth (His Word and glory) defeats the rebel armies. The Seventh Trumpet sounds in sync with the Seventh Plague.

In Heaven: "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord."

On Earth: a voice says, "It Is Done!" The system of religious and political deception is dismantled instantly.

The Special Resurrection (An Unwelcome Encounter)

Before the general resurrection of the righteous, something terrible happens to a specific group. The prophecy says: "Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him" (Rev. 1:7).

A Special Resurrection takes place. God brings up from the grave those who led the crucifixion and mockery of Jesus.

Caiaphas, who tore his robes and condemned the Innocent One.

Pilate, who cowardly washed his hands.

Herod, who mocked Him with a king's robe.

The soldiers who drove in the nails and pierced His side.

They wake up not to salvation, but to see that this humble man was, in fact, God. They see the King in glory, recognize their fatal mistake, and, terrified, die once more before the glory of His presence. It is the final settling of accounts for that injustice.

The Terror of the Wicked (Sixth Seal)

For the kings of the earth, the wealthy, and the powerful who rejected grace, Jesus' coming is not joy — it is the ultimate nightmare. The Sixth Seal describes the panic: "Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne" (Rev. 6:16).

They would rather be crushed under mountains than face the loving gaze they once rejected. The mockery has stopped. The atheist is "born again" — too late. Money buys no shelter. They realize they chose the losing side.

The Other Supper (The Vultures' Banquet)

The chapter ends with a grotesque, but necessary, scene. An angel invites the birds of the sky to "the great supper of God" (v. 17). But the menu is not festival food — it is "the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men."

This is the brutal contrast with the Marriage Supper of the Lamb (which we saw in the previous chapter).

Those who accepted Jesus: partake of the banquet of Life.

Those who rejected Jesus: become the banquet of Death.

This symbolizes the total, humiliating defeat of the human system. Those who considered themselves "great," "rich," and "powerful," who oppressed the poor and persecuted the church, will end their days without glory, on the battlefield of Armageddon.

The Resurrection of Life

But for you, who have waited, this is the moment of the victory shout: "This is our God; we have waited for Him!" (Isaiah 25:9). At the sound of God's trumpet, graves burst open across the entire planet.

Adam wakes up.

The martyrs wake up.

Your loved ones who died in Christ wake up.

They come forth perfect, immortal, glorious. And we, the faithful who are still alive, are transformed "in the twinkling of an eye." Gravity loses its grip. We begin to rise. Angels lift children from the arms of mothers in the grave and hand them to mothers who are alive or newly resurrected. The air fills with embraces and tears of joy.

The Journey to the Sea of Glass

We do not stay on Earth. Jesus promised: "I go to prepare a place for you... that where I am, there you may be also" (John 14:3). The place prepared is the New Jerusalem, which is in heaven.

We enter the cloud. The return trip takes seven days. We travel across the universe, passing through unfallen worlds, beholding the wonders of creation, until we reach the Sea of Glass. There, we receive our crowns, our harps, and we sing the song of victory. We are home.

And What of the Earth?

While we celebrate in Heaven, what happens to our planet? The wicked were killed by the glory of His coming (the "supper of the birds"). The righteous have ascended. The Earth is left empty. Cities destroyed by the global earthquake of the seventh plague. Corpses scattered. Darkness. The planet returns to the state of Genesis 1:2 — "without form, and void."

This is the setting for the next chapter. Satan will no longer reign over humans; he will be trapped in solitary confinement, forced to contemplate the ruin he caused.
