The Final Ultimatum
Three Messages for the Modern World (Revelation 14:6-13)
Imagine you're asleep at home and suddenly the fire alarm goes off. The sound is shrill, irritating, impossible to ignore. You wake up startled. Is the alarm pleasant? No. Is it necessary? Absolutely. It saves your life.
The world today is spiritually asleep, intoxicated by entertainment and materialism. The danger — the end of grace — is approaching silently. That is why God does not whisper. He sends three angels flying through the midst of heaven to sound a global alarm.
Revelation 14:6-12 contains God's Final Ultimatum to humanity. Right after this, the next scene is the return of Jesus (v. 14). This, therefore, is the single most important message on the planet today. If you want to know what to preach, or how to live in these days, the answer is right here.
The 1st Angel: The Hour Has Come (v. 6-7)
John sees an angel flying with the "everlasting gospel." Note: it isn't a new gospel. It is the same good news that salvation comes through the grace of Jesus. But in this time of the end, that gospel takes on an urgent frame.
The angel cries out: "Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come." It doesn't say "the hour will come." It says "has come." Since 1844, we have been living in the time of the Investigative Judgment. The Court is in session. The angel is warning: "The Judge is already in His seat. Put your lives in order."
And how do we do that? The angel finishes: "and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water." This phrase is an almost direct quotation of the Fourth Commandment (Exodus 20:11), the Sabbath. In the time of the end, when the world teaches evolution (which denies Creation) and worships the Beast (which changed the day of worship), God's message is a call to return to the Creator. Worshiping God as Creator implies recognizing the memorial of Creation: the Sabbath. It is the antidote to atheism and idolatry.
The 2nd Angel: The System Falls (v. 8)
Right behind him comes the second angel: "Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city." Babylon, in prophecy, is not modern-day Iraq. It is a confused religious system (Babel = confusion). It represents the churches and systems that mixed biblical truth with paganism and human philosophy.
Why did she fall? "Because she has made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication." What is the wine? False doctrines.
The immortality of the soul (which leads to spiritism).
The sanctity of Sunday (a human tradition).
Salvation through works or rituals.
This "wine" intoxicates. People grow dizzy, emotionally dependent on a religiosity that never transforms their character. The angel warns: this system, however rich and powerful it may appear, is morally bankrupt. Get out before it collapses on top of you.
The 3rd Angel: The Most Terrible Warning (v. 9-11)
Then comes the third angel. He doesn't speak — he shouts ("a loud voice"). "If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead, or on his hand..."
Here is the most severe warning in the entire Bible. Whoever accepts the mark of convenience (in order to buy and sell) instead of the seal of God will drink "of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation."
Normally, God's wrath is mixed with mercy. But a moment will come when mercy runs out. Does that sound cruel? Think of the fire alarm. If you see a child running toward a cliff, you don't whisper, "Careful, sweetheart." You scream! The scream is jarring, but it's the only way to prevent death. The Third Angel is God's desperate cry of love: "Don't do this! Do not accept this system! The consequences are irreversible and eternal!"
The Profile of the Saints (v. 12)
After presenting the danger, God points to the solution. How do we escape the Beast, Babylon, and the Wrath? Verse 12 is the anchor of the faithful:
"Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus."
This is the "GPS" for finding the true church in the time of the end. It has two non-negotiable traits:
The commandments of God: They do not nullify the Law. They keep the Ten Commandments (including the Sabbath) out of love for Christ.
The faith of Jesus: They trust not in their own works, but in the righteousness of Christ. And they possess the faith of Jesus — the same absolute trust Jesus Himself had in the Father.
It is not "Law" or "Grace." It is Law and Grace. Obedience and Faith.
The Rest of the Warriors
The text closes with a beautiful promise for those who die during this final battle: "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on... that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow them" (v. 13).
If you have to die for your faith before Jesus returns, do not be afraid. It is only a rest. When you open your eyes again, you will see Jesus coming in the clouds.
The Call
The Three Angels' Messages are not meant to be kept secret. They are meant for "many peoples, nations, and tongues." Today, you have heard the alarm.
Return to worshiping the Creator.
Reject the wine of false doctrine.
Do not accept the mark of human convenience.
Are you part of the movement carrying this final ultimatum to the world?
Lord, thank You for warning us. I hear the sound of the trumpets and the voice of the angels. I choose today to leave the confusion of Babylon. Give me strength to keep Your commandments and hold the faith of Jesus. Use me as a megaphone to carry this message of salvation to those who are asleep. Amen.
